The National Trust's Open House programme runs January through March 2014.
Every Wednesday a beautiful house in Barbados opens its doors to the public to view from 2.30pm to 5.30pm.
All types of houses are on show from the grand old plantation houses rich with centuries of history, to newer luxurious Bajan-Style villas. The grounds and gardens are part of the attraction. A Bazaar with Bookshop and Craftspeople plus Refreshments will be available.
Also at 3.15pm at each event "The Lively Little Lecture Series" will be hosted by Dr. Henry Fraser and Dr. Karl Watson.

CLIFTON GREAT HOUSE, St John
Clifton Hall is one of Barbadosí oldest and grandest great houses. Set in ample gardens, Clifton Hall joins a medieval structure to a later, Georgian mansion. Its gracious Palladian double entrance staircase, arcaded gallery, and spacious reception rooms belie the Jane Eyre element concealed upstairs. This treasure was recently rescued from ruination by owners who have stylishly transformed the house for modern living and yet retained its historical character. No stilettos please!
COLLETON HOUSE, St. Peter
Established in the mid 17th century, Colleton is an exemplar of Barbadosí rich and tangled history. Most recently it was the home of an extraordinary geologist whose art collection spans the diverse cultures he encountered. This is a rare opportunity to see it, and to reflect on the impact of two remarkable men who owned Colleton House. We thank the owners for arranging this date.
CODRINGTON COLLEGE, St. John
The first institution of higher learning in the West Indies, Codrington College was completed in 1748. It now provides dignifiedand serene surroundings for theological studies. Todayís visit includes the dramatic main building patterned after an Oxford college, and rare access to the Principalís Lodge (formerly the Consett Plantation great house) built in medieval design. Approached through majestic palms and surrounded by stunning park land, the total effect is heavenly.
Admission prices are $20 (Bds$) for National Trust members, $25 for BARP members and $30 for non members. For directions to the properties and any further information please email the National Trust.
